Step 4: Demolding

After curing, the sheet must cool before demolding. Rapid cooling can cause thermal shock and warping. Sheets are typically allowed to cool to room temperature over 2–4 hours.

After demolding, the sheet may have a rough back surface (from the mold) and a smoother front surface (from the carrier film).


Step 5: Sanding and Finishing

The sheet passes through a multi-head sanding line:

  1. Rough sanding (60–80 grit) — levels the sheet, removes mold texture
  1. Medium sanding (120–180 grit) — smooths the surface
  1. Fine sanding (240–400 grit) — prepares for final finish
  1. Final finish — matte (satin) or gloss finish applied

Thickness tolerance should be ±0.2 mm on 12 mm sheet after sanding. Premium manufacturers hold tighter tolerances.


Step 6: Quality Inspection

Each sheet is inspected for:

  • Thickness consistency (measured at multiple points)
  • Color uniformity (visual inspection under standard lighting)

  • Flexural strength and hardness (sample testing per batch)
  • Fire rating compliance (sample testing per production run)
